Class Notes:

Kindergarten: During the holiday season, Kindergarten will be studying family customs and traditions from around the world. We will be finishing our letters and sounds and will begin putting those skills to good use as we begin to read and write sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation. In math, we will continue reviewing numbers 0-10 and begin learning to count, recognize, represent, and write numbers 11-20. At this point in the school year, your child should be able to recognize all letters, all letter sounds, color words, numbers 0-10, number words 0-10, and read all sight words fluently! Repetition is important even if your child has already mastered the skill. Please make sure your child has an appropriate change of clothes for the winter season in his/her backpack. Label your child’s coat! We hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

First Grade: First Grade is looking forward to an exciting and busy month in December. Please continue reading AR books and the story of the week with your child each night. Our reading skills this month will cover words ending with ng, nk, es, ing, and ed. We will review contractions and compound words. In math, we are working on number patterns, place value, ordering and comparing numbers, and mental math addition and subtraction. We want to wish everyone a very merry holiday!

Second grade: It's hard to believe it's December! The school year is flying by. We have been busy in 2nd grade researching jellyfish. We have also enjoyed studying about the Wampanoags and the journey that the Pilgrims made to Plymouth. As we approach the Christmas season, we are excited to be celebrating this time of year with Christmas around the world. We will study different countries and the traditions they have during the holiday season. During winter break, please remember to work with your child 10-20 minutes a day reviewing addition and subtraction skills. Also, make sure that your child is reading each day! Be on the lookout for a Christmas breakfast party note coming in your child's folder.

Third Grade: Wow! We can't believe that it is almost Christmas. We are still working hard on our multiplication facts. We will continue working on multiplication this month by learning multiplication facts, strategies and understanding multiplication. It is very important that your child studies these at home so that they will become fluent. Third graders are ending their study of famous Americans soon. Next, we will read Stuart Little by E.B. White, one of the famous authors we studied. During the month of December, we will focus heavily on conducting research and writing. December 1st will be our final spelling test of the semester. Students will be reevaluated and new spelling groups will be created for the second semester. Thanks for all the hard work in 2017! Have a very merry Christmas.

Fourth Grade: Christmas is right around the corner and we couldn't be more excited! 4th grade is working hard to finish up the 2nd nine weeks strong. Keep an eye out for information about our Christmas party. We will be sending out information soon! In English, we will begin reading various Christmas stories and reviewing literature standards. In Social Studies, we are continuing learning about the Revolutionary War. In Math, we are beginning fractions! Please continue to study multiplication and division fluency with your child. In Science, we are learning about physical science and forms of energy. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Library: Kindergarten and first grade students are discovering how nonfiction books provide facts about various topics such as reindeer and how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Second grade students are learning how characters in books can change, such as the Grinch in the book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Third and fourth grade students are practicing their research skills. Happy reading and enjoy your Christmas break!

Physical Education: This month the second, third, and fourth grades will continue their basketball unit. Thus far, they have gone over the proper dribbling, shooting, and passing. Kindergarten & first will continue the basketball unit as well but they will be more focused on dribbling and passing opposed to shooting.

Music: Third grade will be performing a Christmas program on December 18th. There will be one performance during the school day as well as one in the evening at 6pm. If your child has brought a part home please help them memorize their lines. The students are working hard, and we are excited to share our program with you!

Art: Happy December! All artwork will be sent home before Christmas break. They have worked hard this semester and have created awesome pieces! Have a wonderful Christmas!
