Ms. Claire's School Counseling Philosophy:

I have a passion for inspiring, motivating, challenging, and empowering students. I believe in the power of building relationships with students and treating each student with positive regard in order to help enhance their learning and success in all arenas of life. All students have the potential for greatness and, through a socially conscious, equitable, strengths based approach, that greatness can be achieved. It is important to meet all students where they are in order to ascertain and meet their needs. I will create a respectful, affirming, safe and supportive school community that values and nurtures the holistic student and promotes student growth and learning. I embrace diversity, recognize that each student has a different story to tell, and encourage students to be proud of their own individual stories. I believe it is my responsibility as a school counselor to advocate for and on behalf of all students on any level necessary, while at the same time, empowering students to have a voice of their own and working with them to strengthen their autonomy so that they may become strong self-advocates. I will tirelessly advocate for academic equity, positive reform, and social justice on behalf of my students and their communities. I believe in collaboration with teachers, parents, guardians, administrators, stakeholders, and the community to give students increased opportunities for success and to ensure that the needs of all students are being met appropriately.

As a professional school counselor it is my responsibility to remain an effective school counselor. I will accomplish this by participating in ongoing, high quality, and meaningful professional development to enhance my competency and best serve all students and stakeholders. The school counseling program will be data driven in order to meet the needs of the student population, taking into account all student needs and differences. Data will be used to inform and continuously improve the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that promotes student achievement. The school counseling program will maintain alignment with the American School Counselor Association National Model and the Tennessee Comprehensive School Counseling Model of Practice. I will abide by the American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards at all times.
